In 2018, it became public knowledge that Wolfgang Seibert, then chairman of the Jewish community in Pinneberg, had been telling a false family history for decades. Instead of being a descendant of Jews persecuted in Auschwitz, Seibert’s grandfather was a non-Jewish Wehrmacht soldier. In „Die richtige Seite der Geschichte“ (The right side of the story), Seibert speaks publicly for the first time about his lies and how they came about.

The film documents methods of falsification and staging. Through its unreliable narrator, it reveals the emergence of lies.
